Sony Playstation 3 PS3 Slim Console News and Info

The folks at Sony have unveiled yet another cutting edge video game system, as they've announced the Playstation 3 Slim or new PS3 slim gaming system.  There had been photos of the official PS3 slim box package put out on the internet months ago, but now they have made the dream into a reality.  The console was unveiled at the 2009 GamesComduring a Sony Press Conference and will be available to the gaming masses soon!

What makes this new video game system unique? Like it's name implies it's much slimmer than the first PS3 is. It's basically an updated, sleeker, slimmer and better designed video game system than the original PS3. This slim console is 32% smaller than previous models and uses 34% less power as well. The new slimmer PS3 model will ship with a nice-sized hard drive of 120 gigabytes, perfect for storing MP3 music and other multimedia files!  Many PS3 video game fans are already trying to find out if they can swap out the PS3 slim hard drive and add in bigger drives.  There may be some sort of hacks developed or a future update from Sony on this.

With the Sony PS3 slim you'll be able to enjoy built-in Wi-Fi and a Blu-ray player. Play both CD's and DVD's on it in addition to your video games. Also, you'll receive a free PlayStation Network Membership!

Also among the new features are special compatibility with the PS3 and BRAVIA TV sets, that allow for system standby auto shut off and other controls. Sony will be providing a new 3.0 version firmware in conjunction with this new PS3 as well. They will also be eliminating the "Install Other OS" feature that was part of PS3's.

The new Sony PS3 slim console will actually be cheaper than its predecessor.  Playstation 3 slim will sell for just $299, while the other PS3's sold for $399.  This new model will have a nice $100 price drop to go with its slim, sleek technology!   

Due to this, there's been an overall Sony PS3 price drop and starting August 19th, they will drop all existing PS3 models to $300.  But instead of scooping up the old technology you might want to wait for the new!
