There's several different variations that can be played to determine scoring and bonus points, making for hours of endless fun for the entire family.
The game has been recommended for ages 5 all the way up to 70 and beyond...People all over are playing this game and raving about how they just can't stop playing...You could almost say they're going bananas over it!
Bananagrams game features a very cool yellow carrying bag for the tiles, making this a highly portable game. It's great to bring on road trips or travel to keep the kids and even the older folks busy!
How to Play Bananagrams
Bananagrams features 144 letter tiles that are placed face down on your table or playing surface. In a game of 2-4 people, each player will take 21 letters. For 5-6 players, each will take 15 and for 7 or more players, each will take 11 tiles.
From here, the game begins as one player says "SPLIT" and all players turn their letters face up. Each player begins to construct intersecting crosswords with their letter tiles, as words can be made horizontal or vertical. Players all play at the same time, rather than taking turns.
Once a player has exhausted all of their original letters they call out "PEEL", and take a tile from the remaining tiles. All other players are required to take another tile as well, adding it to their others.
If a player has a difficult to play letter, they can return it face down to the pile, but they then must retrieve 3 new tiles in return.
The game goes on until a player has no letters left and shouts "BANANAS!" If all words are correct and spelled right, that player wins the hand. The other players can inspect their words and if the winning player has any misspelled or incorrect words, they are declared a Rotten Banana. The rotten banana must return all tiles to the others face down and that player is removed from the hand. The remaining players then play out the hand to determine winner.
Since hands can go fast, a game of Best of 5 or 7 or however many hands could be a great way to determine the ultimate winner for that game of Bananagrams!
You could also consider other variations that you make up such as no words less than three letters or make the game about words related to specific categories. There's plenty of fun scenarios you can dream up with this creative word game!

Hmm, really interesting game. What about the bananagrams online game? Is it similar to this one?
Great run-down on the game. As for minimum number of letters, that is specified at two letters. I too prefer the game with minimum of three letter words. It certainly does make the game more of a challenge.

Great article, man. Bananagrams is a great game to play, for sure... but I do have a question for you. Like you said in your past paragraph, I usually play that you can't make words less than 3 letters. I'm wondering: is there there an official rule about minimum letter count?
